A Great Guy

A Great Guy

This week we lost both a great Journalist & an all around great man. Walter Cronkite was not just a jounalist but he was someone we trusted to tell us the truth. In an age when in a lot of instances we could not always trust what we read in the papers or heard on radio or TV to not be propaganda to influence our thinking was someone that through the years we knew would be telling us what was really going on. His ending," And thatat's the way is" could be accepted as really being the way it was.
We loved his show of emotion, a journalistic no no when he announced the death of President Kennedy in November of 1963. We loved watching his coverage of Presidential elections, because he made us a part of what was going on in the various campaign headquarters.
Who could forget the exciement of the space launches, especially his coverage of the landing on the moon. We were transported as eye witnesses to the event we were watching & felt we were there.
Walter Cronkite had a way of describing events which made them more personal while still keeping them as news which was unfolding before our eyes. He interveiwed the famous, & had a way ofi makng the person open up often surprising the person he was interveiwing into revealing more than they had planned on revealing. I think a lot of that had to do with his ability of making the person feel comfortable, & knowing that Walter Cronkitewas honest & trustworthy himself.
I know he will be greatly missed as not only a great jounalist, but a great human bieng.
